ISM Fashion House: A Look Back at 2021

In March, we met artist Alain Gakwaya at his studio in San Antonio’s arts district. This meeting inspired us to develop the first chapter of ISM Family, our ongoing series in which we introduce our community to the creators who inspire us most. Over the next few months, we participated in our first pop-up events at Artists & Fleas, Johnny’s West Adams, and Topanga Living Cafe, where the Ile de France collection remains available to try-on and purchase. ISM also became a featured brand on The Fifteen Percent Pledge—an organization that challenges businesses to dedicate 15% of their shelf space to Black-owned businesses.
Part 3 | CELEBRATION
Later in spring, we opened our first showroom in Venice Beach, CA, where we celebrated ISM’s launch alongside our closest loved ones. We gathered for the first time since the pandemic began to take in the Ile de France collection, coupled with an exhibition of Alain’s paintings and musical performances. ISM celebrated two publications in 2021. Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam photographed our friend and model Sarai Rollins for the August cover shoot wearing our flagship style, Mont Saint Michel. Brennan was also featured in Shoutout LA, a publication dedicated to amplifying the small businesses, independent artists, and creatives who make up the fabric of our communities.
